Junction is the county seat of Piute County and the place where State Route 153 leaves US Highway 89 to climb west over the Tushar Mountains to Beaver. The town sits at about 6,000 feet on the Sevier River between Piute Reservoir to the north and Circleville to the south, with the Tushars, the third-highest range in Utah, rising to more than 12,000 feet directly west. The name is literal: two rivers (the Sevier and its East Fork) and two highways meet here.
Settled in 1880 and incorporated in 1913, Junction has stayed small; the 2020 Census counted 212 people spread across a town that covers about 13 square miles, most of it pasture and hay. The 1903 Piute County Courthouse still stands at Main Street and SR-153, though county business moved to a newer building a mile north around 1980.
Junction's residents are ranching families, county and school district employees, and retirees and outdoor-minded newcomers who found a quiet river valley with two state parks and a national forest within 20 minutes.
Junction is the school town for Piute County. Piute High School, which serves grades 7-12 for the whole county, is here, along with the Piute County School District office. Elementary students attend Circleville Elementary about ten minutes south. Everyday shopping is limited to a convenience store and small businesses; Richfield, about 50 minutes north on US-89, is where residents go for groceries, Sevier Valley Medical Center, Snow College Richfield and box stores. Marysvale is 15 minutes north and Circleville 10 minutes south.
The outdoors is the main event. Piute State Park on Piute Reservoir sits just north of town for fishing and boating. Otter Creek State Park, one of Utah's best trout reservoirs, is about 15 minutes east via SR-62 and Kingston Canyon. The Paiute ATV Trail system loops through the Tushars and the Sevier Plateau on both sides of the valley, and SR-153 over the Tushars past Puffer Lake to Beaver is a spectacular summer drive. Fishlake National Forest land is minutes away in every direction, and deer and elk hunting is a way of life.
Salt Lake City is roughly 3 hours north; I-70 at Sevier is about 35 minutes.
Junction's housing is a small collection of pioneer brick and frame homes, mid-century houses and manufactured homes on the town grid, plus ranch headquarters and small acreages along the Sevier River and up the benches. Irrigated pasture with water shares, river frontage and mountain-view parcels are the typical rural listings. Turnover is very low; a few properties a year change hands.

Broadly, Piute County has been one of the more affordable corners of Central Utah, and pricing is driven by acreage, water and condition rather than by neighborhood.

Piute Reservoir is just north of town and Otter Creek Reservoir, about 15 minutes east, is one of Utah's top trout lakes. The Sevier River and East Fork run through the valley, and Fish Lake is about an hour away.
