Levan sits at the western foot of the San Pitch Mountains in the southern Juab Valley, ten miles south of Nephi on State Route 28. State Route 78 leaves town to the southwest and reaches Interstate 15 in about 11 miles near Chicken Creek Reservoir, so Levan has the interstate without being on it. Local lore says the name is "navel" spelled backward because the town is near the geographic center of Utah; other origins have been proposed, but the story sticks.
The town was founded in 1867 and has always been a farming and ranching community. Population dropped to 376 by 1970, then rebuilt as families looked for cheaper land within reach of Nephi and Utah County: 688 in 2000, 841 in 2010 and 862 at the 2020 Census. Levan is still compact, well under a square mile inside town limits, with fields and pasture running right up to the back fences.
People who choose Levan want quiet. It is farmers and ranch families, Nephi workers who prefer a smaller town, and a growing handful of commuters and retirees who like that the town has no stoplight and no traffic.
Levan is in the Juab School District with its own elementary school in town; junior high and high school students go to Nephi. Nephi, about 12 minutes north, provides the grocery store, hospital (Central Valley Medical Center), pharmacies and dining. Levan has a town park, church, post office and the kind of ballfields where everyone knows the coaches.
Recreation leans toward water and hills. Yuba State Park and Yuba Reservoir are about 20 minutes southwest via SR-78 and I-15, with boating, beaches and a strong walleye and perch fishery. Chicken Creek Reservoir is closer still. The San Pitch Mountains east of town and Levan Ridge offer ATV and hunting country, and the Nebo Loop is a short drive north. Fall in Levan means harvest, hunting season and cool nights at 5,300 feet.
Commutes: Nephi about 12 minutes, I-15 about 15 minutes, Provo roughly 55 minutes, Salt Lake City about 1.5 hours. Richfield is about 1 hour 10 minutes south by SR-28 through Gunnison and Salina, which makes Levan one of the few Juab towns with a reasonable drive to both the Wasatch Front and the Sevier Valley.
Levan's housing stock is a mix of pioneer-era brick and adobe homes, mid-century ramblers and manufactured homes on the original grid, with newer stick-built homes on the edges. Lots are generous; half-acre and larger parcels with water shares, corrals and outbuildings are common, and there are small acreages and farm ground around the town. New construction is limited and usually custom, so inventory is thin at any given time.
As of August 2026, Redfin reported a median sale price of about $459,000 for Levan over the prior three months. With only a handful of closings each quarter that number moves a lot; a couple of acreage sales can swing it well above what a typical in-town home brings.
