Sheep-country town on SR-132 with a famous July Lamb Day. Homes for sale, local market insight, and expert representation in Fountain Green from the Donavan & Tyson Team.
Fountain Green sits at the northwest corner of the Sanpete Valley on SR-132, the road that climbs over Salt Creek Canyon to Nephi and I-15. That location makes it the closest Sanpete town to the interstate, about 25 minutes from Nephi, and it is the first town Wasatch Front visitors reach when they come into the valley from the west. The population was 1,197 at the 2020 Census. The town's elevation and its position at the valley's northwest edge give it long views south across the Sanpete Valley and a slightly milder climate than the towns closer to the plateau.
The town was settled in 1859 around the large natural springs that give it its name, and it built its economy on sheep. Fountain Green was once one of the biggest wool-producing towns in Utah, and although turkey and cattle operations have joined the sheep, the town has never forgotten it. Lamb Day, held every July since the 1930s, is the community's signature event.
Residents are livestock and turkey-farm families, retirees, and a growing group of I-15 corridor commuters and remote workers who discovered that Fountain Green is closer to Nephi, Santaquin and Payson than most people realize.
Lamb Day fills the town each July with a parade, lamb judging, a closed-pit barbecue, sports tournaments, a musical program and a dance, and the lamb sandwiches draw people from across the state. The rest of the year the town is quiet: Fountain Green Elementary serves K-6, with older students bused to North Sanpete Middle School in Moroni and North Sanpete High School in Mount Pleasant, each about 15 to 25 minutes away.
Big Springs on the east side of town is a local landmark and the source of the town's water; the West Mountains behind it and the San Pitch Mountains to the north offer hunting and riding, and Skyline Drive is about 45 minutes east. Yuba State Park's warm-water lake is about 35 minutes southwest via Levan. Groceries and services are in Mount Pleasant or Ephraim, each about 20 to 25 minutes.
Commute is Fountain Green's calling card within Sanpete: Nephi in about 25 minutes, Santaquin about 45, Spanish Fork and Provo roughly an hour via I-15 or US-89. Richfield is about an hour and 25 minutes south.
Fountain Green's housing mixes 1880s to 1920s brick and stone farmhouses, mid-century ramblers, manufactured homes on owned lots, and newer construction on the west and south sides of town, including recent subdivisions along 300 North and south of 500 South where 3,000 to 4,000 square foot homes have been built. Lots are large, often a third of an acre or more, and small acreage with pasture and irrigation is available on the edges of town.
Buyers are I-15 commuters, retirees from Utah County, and local families. Sales volume is low, a few closings a month at most, so medians swing widely; in 2026 Redfin's monthly figures for Fountain Green have ranged from roughly $320,000 to well over $500,000 depending on which homes closed. For broader context, Zillow's Sanpete County home value index was about $364,000 as of January 2026. We price Fountain Green homes on direct comparables, especially separating the newer large homes from the older stock.
Fountain Green is typically eligible for USDA Rural Development financing. On the newer subdivisions we check for any remaining developer obligations and HOA or road agreements; on older homes and acreage, irrigation shares and well and septic condition are the priorities.
